Maja Kotala

A girl from Chorzow in pursuit of her own place on earth, she has lived in Australia, France, traveled „half the world”, but it is Africa where her heart belongs to. She decided to share what she herself got from life, which is to give women education and independence. For four years, she has been working for women in East Africa with the Sewing Together educational programme, which aims at teaching them design, sewing and the basics of running a business.

Sewing Together is an educational programme, aiming at teaching women fashion skills. Designing, creating patterns, sewing, but also marketing, photography and business. All this to give them a chance for independent life and future free of risk of trafficking or other threats.

Founded in 2018 by Maja Kotala, Sewing Together had its first edition in Uganda together with Kimuli Fashionblibity, where 4 young leaders and 2 women with disabilities were trained.

In 2019 Sewing Together in partnership with the Armia Zbawiebia (the Salvation Army) trained 20 women in the spirit of women's empowerment in Nairobi, Kenya.

In 2020, Maja Kotala opened a school project in Bamburi Mombasa and began working with Haart Kenya.

On top of fashion training, Sewing Together actively fights menstrual poverty in Kenya by providing free reusable sanitary pads to women in Mombasa, Voi, Thika and the Masai tribes.
